Classroom and absence regulations

Classroom Regulations

Absence & Late Arrival of Lecturer - There may be occasions where the lecturer is absent on short notice or arrive late for class due to emergent reasons. If such things happen, CIP administrative office will notice the students through email, SMS, or notice outside the classroom. If a lecturer does not arrive for 15 minutes without any notice, you must immediately inquire with CIP staff.

Classroom Policy -Each lecturer has his/her own classroom policy. The classroom policy is usually included in the syllabus of each course and will be delivered in the class. As long as you choose to take one course, you automatically agree to follow the classroom policy of the course and will take any responsible for any possible result of violating the classroom policy. The school will not accept any complains related to the issue of being punished according to the classroom policy.

If you disagree a certain classroom policy, you may discuss it with the instructor. If you fail to reach a mutual understanding with the instructor, you may report to Academic Performance and Behavior Committee (APBC) through CIP administrative office in the first month of the semester. Otherwise, you will be consider to agree with the classroom policy. However, APBC can only play the role of the mediator. The mediating does not means that the classroom policy will be changed.

Absence & Late of StudentFor your best learning experience, attendance is compulsory for all classes. Instructors willrecord attendance and report the student with poor performance to CIP administrative office. A late arrival or an early leave of over 15 minutes is automatically considered as an absence for that class. Late for the class or leaving class early 3 times will be count as one absence.

Attendance will be calculated into your final grades through different method by the instructors. If the absence rate of certain course is over the minimum absence rate defined by the instructor, student may be deemed as failure by absent and an F will be showed on the transcript.

If you have to miss a class due to some unavoidable reasons such as illness or family emergency, please ask for permission from the instructor if you miss within 2 classes. If miss more than 2 classes, students must report to the Academic Affairs Officer and get the permission. The Officer will inform the instructors on your excused absence once your application has been approved. Related proof, such as doctor’s notes, may be required. It is your responsibility to contact your instructors to make up the classes you have missed or pick up the class materials. Getting approval for absence doesn’t mean that you are waived from assignment. The instructor has the right to decide the influence of your absence on your grade. If you didn’t report to the officer, the absence will be counted as 6 classes per day.

If you have to be absent for more than 3 days, please apply for “Long-term Absence”. And once you are back to school, please report Academic Affairs Officer in the first time, otherwise, we may consider that you are missing and contact your emergency contactor or even report the police.
