Please schedule your study in CIP in a reasonable way. You can register and study in CIP at maximum 6 years, namely 12 semesters, including your schooling suspension time and except for the military service. ICES Academic Information System (ICES AIS)

It is a primary platform for students to choose courses, check the course information, provide evaluation to the teacher and check the grades. The link of the system is the section of "My CIP" on the home page of CIP website. The username is consistent with the student number, which is a 9 digits number issued by DHU and printed on the student card. If you have difficulty to access your account, please report to CIP administration office in the first place. Otherwise, you may miss the chance to choose the course you want.

General Academic Information

A detailed Course Information including the course description and prerequisite courses will be provided to the students when the courses are open for students to choose for the new semester. Please read Course Information carefully before you choose the course. You are suggested to consult any instructors of CIP on good planning of your study in CIP.

Course Numbering - CIP courses are numbered from 100 to 499. Lower-division, or freshman/sophomore classes, usually are number 100-299. Courses numbered 300-499 are usually upper division, or junior/senior level courses.

Schedule of Classes - Course information found in the schedule is accurate at press time. However, changes may be made after. Course changes might include a change of instructor, course days/times, room locations, or class additions or cancellations. Any change made is due to be published on an errata sheet, updated as change occurs.

Credit Hours and Course Loads - Credits are measured in semester hours at DHU. The terms either semester hours or credit hours are used interchangeably. Each credit hour usually equals a minimum of 720 minutes per semester or 45 minutes per week for 16 weeks. Your course loads may include meeting time with the instructor, tutorials, lab hours or consultation hours with the instructor. The allocation of the course load will be determined by the instructor and will be announced in the first week of the instruction. If you missed the first class, please contact your instructor for the course arrangement in the first place.

Course Selection – You will choose the course through Academic Information System (AIS) during the semester, which is usually around week 15 of each semester. The course selection is on a first-come-first-served basis. Student will take the full responsibility if he/she is unable to choose certain course online due to the close of the course selection or no vacancy. Students will be given the chance to change the course in the week before the start of instruction based on the final grade of previous semester.

CIP administrative office will only add students to certain course for following reasons:

1.Student has to choose certain course in the semester in order to continue one’s study in the future

2.Studentfail to choose the course due to technical reasons

3.Student who are required to change the course based on the suggestion of the instructor

4.There are less than 15 credits of courses available online for students to choose.

Each student is required to choose minimum 15 credits to keep the status as a FULL-TIME student in China. The maximum credits student can choose in each semester is 26 credits. Student who wants to choose less than 15 credits or over 26 credits should get permission from CIP director. The permission only be granted for some special cases, such as poor healthy condition or extremely excellent learning ability. Student cannot choose certain course unless he/she passes the prerequisite course. Freshmen need to contact Academic Affairs Office if he/she has credits transferred from previous institute or credits exempted.

ATTN: CIP administrative office reserves the right to drop a student from certain course, if he/she doesn’t meet the prerequisite requirements. CIP administrative office will also drop a student from all his/her courses if he/she fails to make the tuition payment on time and will not reopen the course unless he/she make the full payment as requested. Student must take the responsibilities of late payments. Possible results include failing to be in seated in certain course or receiving no grades for some quizzes because the instructor does not have his/her name in the student name lists.

Course Withdrawal - The student will be given the chance to drop a certain course before the certain date (issued by the academic calendar each semester) of each semester if he/she believe that he/she is unable to pass the course. If a student withdrawal the course before the deadline of each semester (issued by the academic calendar), his or her GPA on the transcript will not be influenced. Failure to withdraw course on time may lead to the failure on certain courses.

Course Failure- Student who fails on certain course has NO opportunity to take the make-up exam unless the instructor decide to give one for special reasons. The student can get make-up opportunity only if he/she missed or failed final exam due to accidental forces, such as illness or family emergency. The make-up exam opportunity and format is determined by the instructor of the course. Student needs to get the approval from both CIP Administrative Office and the instructor to reserve the right for grade change no later than the issued deadline by the academic calendar of each semester. .

Each instructor has the right to fail students directly if one continuously interfere the instruction or constantly violate the classroom policy. In general, if a student whose absence rate is over 30% of the total credit hours, or fails to submit 1/3 of the total assignments, or misses the final exam without permission will be deemed as failure and have to retake the course. However, each instructor’s classroom policy is the final criteria, which usually will be provided in the syllabus or announced in the first class. Please be sure to get the classroom policy in the first place to avoid the possible failure.

Course Retaking-Students who are required to repeat any failed required course should do so in the next immediate semester in which the same course is offered. Failing to do so allows DHU to bar student from progressing to the next level whereby pre-requisites are required. You has the responsibility to monitor your own re-taking courses. Please check your own record and talk with CIP staffs for the course repeating.

If you want to improve your grade and GPA, you can also repeat the course even if you have passed the course. A higher grade will be showed on your transcripts. Please complete the form of Course Repeat Application, which is available at website and must be submitted no later than the 1st Friday of the new semester. The application will be approved based on the availability of the seats and the class schedule. Additional fees maybe required for each retaking course.

Course Incomplete – If you are unable to complete the course in the semester because of illness, emergency, or other reasonable cause, you should discuss this with your instructor and CIP academic affairs officer for the possibility of applying Course Incomplete, which allow you to complete the course work after the semester has finished without failing the course. Unless otherwise noticed, you will have until the last class day of the 5th week of the subsequent semester to complete the work for the course and submit it to the instructor.  You can download the Incomplete Application Form here.

There are several issues should be considered if you are thinking about requesting an “Incomplete”.

You are eligible to apply for “incomplete” only if you have been studying in the course for at least 12 weeks with attendance rate of at least 80%.

Once recorded, a notation of "I" remains on your transcript until the final grade is assigned.

If you receive an I in a course, you will be forfeited your eligibility for Excellent Student Scholarship for that semester/year.

Related documents are required when you applying for Incomplete, such as surgery notice.

Independent Study – CIP provide a way for well-motivated students to pursue a topic of interest that does not included in the curriculum through Independent Study,  a one-to-one course format not in traditional classroom environment. A student and instructor agree upon a topic for the student to research with guidance from the instructor for an agreed upon amount of credits. If a student needs to take certain course for graduation in the last semester but the course is not offered in his/her graduating semester, he/she can also apply to finish the required course in the form of independent study. the application form can be downlad here.

Independent Study requires a strong ability in self-discipline and self-learning and high motivation on the study. In this case, a written application with the instructor’s signature should be submitted to the director of CIP. Usually, the approval decision is made based on student’s previous performance and the discussion with the instructor.

Change of Classes- Students are not allowed to change classes or vary the schedule they have been issued since the 2nd week of each semester except some special situation. And a student can transfer to upper level class only if he/she meets the prerequisite or get approval from both CIP administrative office and the instructors.

Rescheduling or Cancelling Classes - CIP reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a class before the date of its commencement. Every effort will be made upon such a cancellation/rescheduling to inform the enrolled students. Notice will also be placed through students email. CIP also reserves the right to withdraw a course and offer an alternative under unforeseen circumstances.
